Gohar Claims Political Cases Aimed to Crush PTI

31 July, 2025 20:16

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar has claimed that the party is being deliberately pushed out of the Parliament. His statement came during a media talk following court verdicts related to the May 9 cases.

Speaking to reporters, he said, “PTI does not believe in violence or chaos in politics.” He added that those who were sentenced do not support political violence and that all the cases against them are politically motivated. “PTI is being removed from Parliament,” he reiterated.

Gohar further stated, “Three sentences were issued in three days, totaling 45 years of imprisonment. These decisions will destroy democracy.”

He alleged that the founder of PTI is being pressured through the sentencing of his wife. Despite these developments, he said, “We have decided to move forward with the state.”

Referring to the Anti-Terrorism Court’s verdict in Faisalabad, he said that opposition leaders from both the Senate and National Assembly have received sentences.

“Zartaj Gul, the parliamentary leader in the National Assembly, has also been sentenced,” he said.

Barrister Gohar raised concerns about the legal process, saying, “We appealed to the Chief Justice as trials continue until 2 AM. When there are multiple FIRs against someone, trials in other courts are usually paused.”

He concluded by saying, “We want the system to function and democracy to be strengthened.”
