Senate By-Election Mashal Yousafzai KP Seat
Peshawar: Government-backed independent candidate Mashal Yousafzai has won the Senate seat vacated by Sania Nishtar in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly.
In the by-election for the vacant Senate seat in the KP Assembly, government-backed independent candidate Mashal Yousafzai received 86 votes, after which the Returning Officer issued Form 58 confirming Mashal Yousafzai’s victory.
Opposition-backed independent candidate Mehtab Zafar managed to secure 53 votes, while the third independent candidate for the Senate seat, Saima Khalid, received only one vote.
The contest for this seat was between PTI-backed independent candidate Mashal Yousafzai and opposition candidates Mehtab Zafar and Saima Khalid.
For the Senate elections, the opposition had nominated independent candidate Mehtab Zafar as the unanimous candidate, while JUI-F candidate Shazia and (N) League’s Sobia Shahid withdrew.
Before the polling, Chief Minister Ali Amin met with Opposition Leader Ibadullah, in which the opposition leader apologized for withdrawing the candidate.
