Three-day holiday announced to mark Eid Miladun Nabi

26 August, 2025 16:09

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced a three-day paid holiday for private sector employees on the occasion of Eid Miladun Nabi, the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The holiday will begin on Friday, September 5, 2025, and, along with the regular weekend, employees will enjoy a long break from Friday to Sunday.

This decision was made after a similar announcement for government workers, meaning both public and private sector staff will have the same holiday.

According to the Emirates Astronomical Center, the crescent moon for the Islamic month of Rabiul Awwal was not sighted on August 23.

Therefore, the month of Safar ended with 30 days, and Rabiul Awwal started on August 25. Based on this calculation, the 12th of Rabiul Awwal, which is celebrated as Eid Miladun Nabi, will fall on September 5 this year.

Interestingly, Saudi Arabia will observe the occasion on a different date because their moon sighting was reported a day earlier.

In Pakistan, Eid Miladun Nabi will be celebrated on Saturday, September 6, 2025, and it will also be a public holiday.
