Electricity Consumers to Get Small Relief in Next Month’s Bills

28 August, 2025 12:59

Electricity consumers may receive some relief in their upcoming bills as the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) is set to hear a petition filed by the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) today. The agency has requested a reduction of Rs. 1.69 per unit in electricity tariff under the fuel cost adjustment (FCA) for July.

According to the CPPA, electricity generation during July reached 14.123 billion units, with 13.666 billion units supplied to distribution companies. The average generation cost stood at Rs. 8.18 per unit.

The CPPA report highlighted the energy mix for July, stating that hydropower contributed the largest share at 40.13%, followed by local coal at 10.64% and imported coal at 8.07%. Gas-based generation stood at 7.74%, while LNG contributed 17.26%. Nuclear power added around 9% to the total energy supply.

The petition emphasized that reduced fuel costs during July justify a tariff cut, which, if approved, will directly benefit consumers in their upcoming bills. A final decision will be announced by NEPRA after completing the hearing process.
