Islamabad Airport to Be Handed Over to UAE
ISLAMABAD – The federal government has taken a major decision regarding Islamabad International Airport, approving its handover to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for management and operations.
According to GTV News, the decision was finalized during a high-level committee meeting chaired by Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. Officials stated that the agreement aims to improve the airport’s infrastructure and services, while also addressing long-standing financial and operational challenges.
Islamabad International Airport, inaugurated in 2018, has faced continuous issues, including rising maintenance costs, management inefficiencies, and financial strain on the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). By involving the UAE, the government expects modern international standards of operation, upgraded passenger facilities, and improved efficiency in airport services.
Sources indicate that the UAE will be responsible for infrastructure development, operational management, and investment in upgrading the terminal and related facilities. The federal government hopes that this decision will not only enhance passenger experience but also reduce the financial burden currently faced by Pakistan’s aviation sector.
This move reflects Pakistan’s broader strategy of collaborating with international partners to modernize its aviation industry and improve connectivity with the global market.
