The Punjab government has given the green light to the long-awaited elevated highway project in Lahore, aimed at providing signal-free access to the M-2 Motorway.
With an estimated cost of Rs120 billion, the initiative is part of the government’s plan to modernize Lahore’s transport infrastructure. Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Director General Tahir Farooq has called the project a “game changer” for the provincial capital.
Route Map & Features
The 11-kilometer elevated expressway will start from Main Boulevard Gulberg and connect to Babu Sabu, linking directly to the M-2 Motorway. It will feature six major interchanges and be integrated with the Metro Bus and Orange Line Metro Train systems.
Travel Time Reduction
Currently, the journey from Gulberg to Babu Sabu takes around 45 minutes, but once completed, the new expressway will reduce the travel time to just 10 minutes.
Impact & Benefits
The project is expected to serve more than 70,000 commuters daily, while cutting fuel consumption and lowering emissions. It will also support the growing demands of Lahore’s 12 million residents, further positioning the city as a modern megacity.
