US Senate Declares October 14 as National Day of Remembrance for Charlie Kirk

19 September, 2025 10:50

WASHINGTON: The US Senate on Thursday passed a resolution declaring Charlie Kirk’s birthday as the “National Day of Remembrance for Charlie Kirk,” according to American media reports.

The resolution highlighted Kirk’s role as an advocate of freedom of speech and a champion of individual liberty. It stated that he “consistently promoted the values of individual liberty, open debate, the importance of civic engagement, and the defense of constitutional principles.”

The memorial day will be observed every year on October 14, which would have marked Kirk’s 32nd birthday had he been alive.

On the same day, a vigil was held in Boston to honor the slain conservative activist and co-founder of Turning Point USA. Hundreds attended the event to pay tribute and raise their voices against political violence.

According to WCVB, two individuals were arrested during the vigil. Joseph Antuan Castro Del Rio, 38, was taken into custody on charges of disorderly conduct. A minor boy was also arrested on charges of assault and battery, along with possession of a dangerous weapon, as police reported he had a knife at the time of arrest.

Despite deep political divides, many figures across the United States and internationally, including those who strongly disagreed with Kirk’s views, condemned his killing on the grounds that it occurred solely due to differences of opinion.
