ICC Suspends USA Cricket Membership Over Governance Issue

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has suspended USA Cricket’s membership with immediate effect, following a year-long review and consultation process.

The decision was made during a recent ICC Board meeting due to repeated breaches of the ICC Constitution.

In its statement, the ICC said that USA Cricket failed to establish a proper governance structure, made little progress toward gaining recognition from the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC), and took actions that damaged the sport’s reputation both in the U.S. and internationally.

“The suspension is an unfortunate but necessary step to protect the long-term interests of the game,” the ICC said.

Despite the suspension, USA’s national teams will still be allowed to compete in ICC events, including preparations for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

To support the players and maintain progress, the ICC will temporarily oversee USA’s national team operations through its own representatives. The goal is to keep developing cricket in the U.S. and ensure the High-Performance & Player Development Program continues.

A special ICC Normalisation Committee will now work with USA Cricket to outline steps needed for the suspension to be lifted. These steps include improving governance, operations, and internal processes.

The ICC also confirmed its commitment to growing cricket in the U.S. while protecting the interests of players and the wider sporting community.

USA Cricket had been warned at the 2024 ICC Annual General Meeting and given 12 months to fix the issues. However, despite assurances in July 2025, USA Cricket failed to meet key requirements, leading to the suspension.
