Punjab Launches Pakistan’s First Air Quality Forecast System

27 September, 2025 14:44

Lahore: Punjab has developed Pakistan’s first advanced Air Quality Forecast System, following instructions from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. This new system can predict weather and air pollution across the province.

The system will help reduce pollution in big cities like Lahore and Faisalabad. It will also provide weekly reports on air pollution levels.

Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb said the system uses real-time data and scientific models similar to international systems like “WINDY” and “EURO.” It also follows global and local air quality standards.

Right now, Punjab has 41 modern air quality monitoring stations, and the government plans to increase this number to 100 soon. The system will give health advice to people based on pollution levels.

Maryam Aurangzeb thanked Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif for her leadership and praised the Environment Department team for their hard work.

This system is part of Punjab’s plan to fight smog, including actions against burning crop leftovers. The government is also working to control pollution from vehicles and factories.

The minister asked citizens to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during smog season and advised elderly people, children, and those with breathing problems to take extra care.
