Federal board announces raises minimum passing marks for students

08 October, 2025 16:00

The Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) has announced an increase in the minimum passing marks for all subjects — from 33 percent to 40 percent. The new rule will take effect from the 2026 annual examinations.

An FBISE official confirmed that this change will apply to students of both SSC-I (9th class) and HSSC-I (11th class) levels.

Previously, students needed 33 percent marks to pass a subject. Now, with the new policy, they must score at least 40 percent. The aim is to improve academic performance and bring Pakistan’s education standards closer to international levels.

This decision was made after recommendations from the Inter-Board Coordination Commission (IBCC), which reviewed grading and evaluation systems across different educational boards in the country.

The move is expected to encourage students to focus more on their studies and raise the overall quality of education under FBISE.
