Pakistan-Russia Parliamentary Ties Strengthened: Senate Chairman Meets Russian Delegation at ISC Islamabad

On the sidelines of the inaugural session of the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers Conference (ISC) in Islamabad, Konstantin Kosachev, the Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council, and Alexander Babakov, the Deputy Chairman of the State Duma, held a meeting with Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani, the Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan.

The parties emphasized the importance of parliamentary cooperation in complementing the efforts of traditional diplomacy to resolve global conflicts.

The Russian delegation thanked the Pakistani leadership, and Mr. Gillani personally, for the invitation and warm welcome, and expressed its readiness for further cooperation.

The Russian delegation strongly condemned the November 11 terrorist attack at the judicial complex in Islamabad and emphasized the need to combat terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.

Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani shared fond memories of his visit to Russia in May and his discussions with Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko.

Konstantin Kosachev also met with ISC Secretary General Ek Nath Dhakal. They discussed prospects for strengthening interparliamentary cooperation within the framework of the ISC and related formats.
