Netanyahu Faces Political Crisis as Iran War Shakes Israel’s Future

Netanyahu Killed in Iranian Khyber Missile Strike, Unverified Reports Claim
March 4, 2026: The growing war between Israel and Iran is creating serious political pressure for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. With elections approaching, experts say his political survival now depends on how this conflict develops and how long it continues.
The recent wave of US-Israeli strikes that led to the martyrdom of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has changed the political atmosphere in the region. Iran responded quickly with retaliatory actions, showing that Tehran remains strong and capable despite the attacks.
Netanyahu claimed that his close relationship with Washington allowed Israel to strike Iran decisively. However, critics inside Israel say the war may be more about political survival than national security. Many believe he is trying to repair his image after the October 7, 2023 Gaza attack badly damaged public trust in his leadership.
Elections Under the Shadow of War
Israel must hold elections by October 27. Some analysts believe Netanyahu may call early elections to benefit from the wartime situation. Emmanuel Navon from Tel Aviv University says Netanyahu will likely not wait until October, especially with the anniversary of October 7 approaching.
Opinion polls show that Netanyahu’s right-wing Likud party could still win the most seats if elections were held today. However, he still lacks a clear majority. His alliance with ultra-Orthodox partners has weakened in recent months.
“Total Victory” or Political Strategy?
Netanyahu continues to use the slogan of “total victory.” But some Israeli journalists question this narrative. Raviv Druker of Channel 13 says Iran remains powerful despite the strikes. He argues that calling the situation a complete victory may not reflect the reality on the ground.
Analysts warn that a long war could damage Netanyahu further. Rising living costs and fear of more casualties are already worrying many Israeli families. Public patience for a prolonged conflict is low.
Last June, Iranian missiles killed 30 people in Israel. Since the latest escalation, more casualties have been reported on both sides. Experts say the Israeli army’s reputation has improved during the conflict, but this does not automatically translate into greater support for Netanyahu personally.
Political Gamble
Netanyahu is also facing a corruption trial at home. The war has shifted attention away from his legal troubles. Some observers suggest the timing of the escalation may have political benefits for him, especially as he struggles to pass a national budget.
If the war ends quickly with clear results, it could strengthen his position. But if it drags on, the political cost may rise sharply.
For now, the conflict with Iran is not only a military confrontation. It is also a high-risk political gamble for Netanyahu, whose future now hangs in the balance as Israeli voters prepare for a crucial election year.
