Millions of Iranians Rally on Quds Day Amid US–Israel Strikes
Millions of people across Iran took to the streets to mark International Quds Day, expressing solidarity with Palestinians and condemning military actions by the United States and Israel in the region.
The annual event, held on the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan, saw massive rallies in major cities including Tehran, where citizens gathered in large numbers carrying Iranian and Palestinian flags.
Rallies Amid Ongoing Conflict
This year’s demonstrations come as tensions remain high due to the ongoing war involving the United States and Israel against Iran. Reports indicate that the conflict has lasted more than two weeks and caused heavy casualties.
Participants gathered in central locations such as Enqelab Square in Tehran, where crowds chanted slogans and voiced support for the Palestinian cause despite reports of explosions heard during rallies.
Support for Iran’s Leadership
Many demonstrators displayed images of Mojtaba Khamenei, showing support for his leadership of the Islamic Revolution. Participants also reaffirmed loyalty to the founder of the Islamic Republic, Ruhollah Khomeini, who established Quds Day in 1979.
Iranian Leaders Call for Participation
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian urged citizens to participate widely in Quds Day rallies and show unity against external pressures.
Meanwhile, Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf said the mass participation demonstrates resistance against what he described as aggression by Israel.
Nationwide and Global Participation
Reports suggest that rallies took place in more than 900 cities and towns across Iran. Large gatherings were also reported in cities such as Ahvaz, Shiraz, and Mashhad.
Similar demonstrations were held in several countries including Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, and Pakistan, as supporters gathered to express solidarity with Palestinians.
Origin of Quds Day
International Quds Day was first proposed by Ruhollah Khomeini shortly after the 1979 Iranian Revolution. The initiative aimed to keep global attention focused on the Palestinian cause and opposition to Israeli control of Palestinian territories.
Over the decades, the day has become a symbol of resistance and solidarity, with demonstrations held annually across West Asia, North Africa, Europe, and North America.
