Marco Rubio says Iran’s people and govt are very different
Marco Rubio has said in a recent statement that there is a major gap between the people and the government in Iran.
He said that there are very few countries in the world where such a clear difference exists between the public and those in power. According to him, Iran is currently being run by what he described as “extremist Shia religious leaders,” while most Iranian citizens are very different from this image.
Rubio added that the people of Iran want a normal and better life. He said they wish to live in a modern, civilized, and more connected society that is linked with the rest of the world.
He also stated that Iran is a country with a rich history and cultural heritage, but its current leadership has isolated it from the international community. Because of this, he said, the global community is affected by Iran’s policies, but the biggest impact is being felt by ordinary Iranian people.
According to Rubio, even the American president feels sympathy for the Iranian people, as they face daily pressure and difficulties under the current system. He said Iranians are struggling both inside the country and in their relations with the outside world due to government policies.
In the end, he expressed regret that the people of Iran have limited means to change the system, even though they deserve a better and more open society.
