National Assembly Approves Rs40.74 Trillion Charged Expenditure For FY2026-27
The National Assembly approved charged expenditures of more than Rs40.74 trillion on Saturday, included in the demands for grants and appropriations for the upcoming fiscal year.
Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, presented a detailed breakdown of the charged expenditure before the House.
As per official documents, the charged expenditure will be debited to the Federal Consolidated Fund under Article 82 of the Constitution of Pakistan, which provides that all federal revenues, government loans and repayments form part of this consolidated fund.
Key Allocations Under The Budget
The budget documents detailed allocations across multiple sectors, including Rs5 million for the Pakistan Post Office Department, Rs6.93 billion for superannuation allowances and pensions, Rs57 billion for grants, subsidies and miscellaneous expenses, and Rs500 million for foreign missions.
Other notable allocations include Rs539.4 million for the Law and Justice Division, Rs7.96 billion for the National Assembly, Rs6.45 billion for the Senate, and Rs607.3 billion for external development loans and advances extended by the federal government.
The charged expenditure also covers Rs963.7 million for the President’s staff, household and public allowances, along with Rs1.83 billion designated for the President’s personal staff and allowances.
Debt Servicing And Repayment Allocations
The House also discussed Rs1.07 trillion earmarked for servicing foreign debt and Rs5.83 trillion for the repayment of foreign loans.
Significant allocations were also approved for Rs130.29 billion toward repayment of short-term foreign credits, Rs9.82 billion for audit-related expenses, Rs6.98 trillion for servicing domestic debt, and Rs25.99 trillion for repaying domestic debt.
Judicial And Institutional Allocations
Additional allocations include Rs7.44 billion for the Supreme Court, Rs6.04 billion for the Federal Constitutional Court, and Rs2.36 billion for the Islamabad High Court. The education sector was allocated Rs10.57 billion, while Rs258.5 million was set aside for the Federal Ombudsman Secretariat for Protection against Harassment of Women at Workplace. The Wafaqi Mohtasib received Rs2.12 billion, and the Federal Tax Ombudsman was allocated Rs645.5 million.
Opposition Raises Concerns Over Grant Demands
During the session, State Minister for Law and Justice, Barrister Aqeel Malik, responded to criticism from the opposition regarding the grant demands. He firmly rejected the allegations, stating that there should be no double standards when it comes to matters of justice.
