Australia warns citizens against traveling to Afghanistan

01 July, 2026 11:17

Australia has strongly advised its citizens not to travel to Afghanistan, saying the country’s security situation remains extremely dangerous under the Taliban regime.

According to the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s Smart Traveller website, Australians should avoid all travel to Afghanistan because of serious security threats.

The travel advisory said Australian citizens have been injured, killed and illegally detained in Afghanistan. It also warned that no part of the country is considered safe, including the capital, Kabul.

The Australian government advised its citizens not to visit Afghanistan for tourism, cultural activities or even to meet family members due to the high security risks.

Several other countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada, have also advised their citizens not to travel to Afghanistan because of ongoing security concerns.

Analyst Dr. Arm Sarwar said the situation in Afghanistan remains dangerous and uncertain for both local and foreign citizens.

He added that the travel warnings issued by different countries show that the Taliban government has failed to establish a safe and secure environment across the country.
