Pakistan Reaffirms Religious Harmony as Reconstruction of Sikh Dharamshala Agreed in Farooqabad

A renewed example of interfaith harmony and tolerance has emerged in Pakistan after the Sikh community and local representatives reached a mutual agreement to reconstruct a historic Dharamshala in Farooqabad, Sheikhupura. The decision was taken with consensus on preserving the site’s original historical and cultural identity.
The visit was carried out under the National Message for Peace Committee, which brought together leaders from different religious schools of thought and faiths to express solidarity with the Sikh community. Participants emphasized the importance of protecting places of worship belonging to all religions and promoting mutual respect among communities.
Religious scholars, including Allama Tahir Ashrafi, reiterated that Pakistan’s Constitution guarantees the religious rights of all citizens. He stated that no mosque, temple, gurdwara, or Dharamshala’s legal status would be altered, and described any claims of controversy around the Farooqabad site as unfounded propaganda. He also reaffirmed that safeguarding places of worship remains a key responsibility of the state.
