Iran Says UN Voting Record of US, Israel and Argentina Is ‘Revealing’

18 July, 2026 18:42

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei has criticized the United States, Israel and Argentina over their voting records at the United Nations, saying the three countries’ positions on several major General Assembly resolutions over the past year were “revealing.” In a post on X, Baqaei pointed to the UN General Assembly’s Ninth Review of the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy, adopted on July 1, 2026, which received 140 votes in favor, three against and one abstention. According to the official UN voting record, the United States, Israel and Argentina were the only countries to oppose the resolution.

Baqaei also highlighted three other General Assembly resolutions on which the same three countries cast the only opposing votes. These included a March 25, 2026 resolution declaring the transatlantic slave trade a crime against humanity, and two resolutions adopted on December 18, 2025, aimed at strengthening international cooperation against human trafficking and reaffirming that counterterrorism measures must comply with international human rights obligations. “Just a hint at what is what and who is who,” Baqaei wrote, adding, “Aren’t they revealing?”
