Russia and COMSTECH Explore New Avenues for Scientific and Academic Cooperation

On August 12, Ambassador Albert P. Khorev received a delegation from the Standing Committee for Scientific and Technological Cooperation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (COMSTECH), headed by its Coordinator General, Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary.

The meeting focused on opportunities to further develop cooperation between COMSTECH and Russia in its capacity as an OIC Observer State. Dr. Iqbal Choudhary highlighted the fruitful cooperation with Kazan Federal University and the Russian Association of Earthquake Engineering and Protection against Natural and Man-Made Hazards.

The sides noted significant potential for expanding academic exchanges, including by strengthening inter-university ties, promoting scholarship programs, and advancing joint fundamental research. They stressed the importance of expediting the implementation of initiatives agreed upon at the first meeting of the Working Group on Cooperation between COMSTECH and the Russian Federation in the fields of science, technology and higher education, held on the sidelines of the International Economic Forum “Russia – Islamic World: KazanForum” in Kazan on May 13, 2026.

Ambassador Khorev reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to further expanding multifaceted dialogue with the OIC and Muslim countries, including Pakistan. The interlocutors noted that cooperation with COMSTECH also contributes to strengthening bilateral Russia-Pakistan relations. They agreed to maintain regular contacts and provide all possible support for the implementation of joint projects.
