PSX Falls Over 200 Points Amid Selling Pressure
The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) fell by more than 200 points on Thursday as selling pressure emerged during the trading session, reversing earlier gains.
The benchmark KSE-100 Index closed at 180,104.61 points, down 206.60 points, or 0.11%, from the previous close.
Selling was seen in several major sectors, including cement, commercial banks, fertiliser, oil marketing companies (OMCs) and power generation.
Heavyweight stocks such as HUBCO, Mari Petroleum and OGDC also closed in negative territory, putting pressure on the benchmark index.
On Wednesday, the PSX had recovered as investors returned to buying after two consecutive sessions of profit-taking. Market sentiment also improved following reports that the US-Iran ceasefire had been extended.
The KSE-100 Index closed Wednesday at 180,311.22 points.
Meanwhile, international oil prices fell by more than $1 on Thursday after forecasters lowered their projections for global oil demand in 2026. The revision came amid disruptions linked to the US-Israeli war on Iran.
However, supply concerns caused by the conflict continued to provide some support to oil prices.
Brent crude futures fell $1.29, or 1.5%, to $87.69 per barrel by 0100 GMT, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude declined $1.30, or 1.6%, to $81.97 per barrel.
