Iran Calls for US, Israel Accountability Over Alleged War Crimes

07 September, 2026 20:49

Iran’s Permanent Mission to the UN Office in Geneva has called for the United States and Israel to be held accountable for what Tehran describes as war crimes committed during their attacks against Iran. In a statement marking the opening of the 63rd session of the UN Human Rights Council, the mission said Iran would continue amplifying the voices of victims and survivors of the alleged aggression.

The Iranian mission said the Human Rights Council has a mandate to address human rights and humanitarian violations arising from conflicts, including attacks on civilian infrastructure and targets. It specifically cited strikes on a school in Minab, Hormozgan Province, and a sports complex in Lamerd, Fars Province, claiming that dozens of civilians were killed and describing the attacks as clear war crimes.

The mission pledged that Tehran would continue seeking accountability, justice and protection for civilians. The 63rd session of the Human Rights Council began on Monday and is scheduled to continue until October 7. According to the Iranian account, the latest US-Israeli attacks began on February 28, following which Iran launched missile and drone strikes against Israeli-occupied territories as well as US bases and interests in the region.
