Ishaq Dar, Maldives Foreign Minister Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Ties at UNGA

NEW YORK: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar met with Maldivian Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The two sides reviewed Pakistan-Maldives bilateral relations and expressed satisfaction over the positive momentum in ties between the two countries.

They stressed the importance of sustained high-level engagement and agreed to further strengthen cooperation in trade, connectivity, economic relations, business-to-business linkages, academia and defence.

Pakistan, Maldives Seek Greater Multilateral Cooperation

The two foreign ministers also emphasised the need for greater cooperation at the multilateral level, including through the United Nations, Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).

They reaffirmed their commitment to working closely on issues of mutual interest at international and regional forums.

The Maldivian foreign minister underscored the importance her country attaches to further strengthening its longstanding relations with Pakistan.

The meeting reflected the two sides’ shared interest in expanding bilateral cooperation and maintaining regular high-level engagement.
