The ICJ says it has the jurisdiction to rule on a bid from Iran to overturn US sanctions.

United States reinstated sanctions against Iran during former President Donald Trump’s administration.
In a statement, the Court rejected the preliminary objection to its jurisdiction which the United States raised.
Meanwhile, the ICJ stated that it has jurisdiction to entertain the Iran application filed on 16th of July 2018.
It also declared the aforesaid application as admissible.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister Javad Zarif has hailed the ICJ’s decision as another legal victory for Iran.
Furthermore, he urged the US to live up to its international obligations.
On the other hand, the United States says the Hague-based ICJ does not have jurisdiction and must throw out the case.
It also argued that the sanctions were necessary because Iran posed a grave threat to international security.
Blinken assures US support to Israeli FM against Iran.
Recently, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Israeli Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi spoke on the former’s first full day in office, on Wednesday.
According to Israeli media, they discussed “regional strategic matters, the Iranian threat and other topics.
While quoting the Israeli Foreign Ministry, media reported Ashkenazi congratulated Blinken on his confirmation.
