KARACHI: The Sindh government has officially replaced the traditional marks system in all educational boards with a grading system.
Sindh’s Minister for Universities, Ismail Rahu, announced that the new grading system will be used for matriculation and intermediate exams. The change is intended to align local education standards with international practices.
Under the new system, students who score less than 40% will be considered as having failed. The decision follows federal guidelines set by the Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC).
Gradual Implementation
The grading system will be introduced in phases:
New Grading Formula
Instead of numerical marks, student performance will now be graded as follows:
Minimum Passing Marks
The minimum passing percentage is 40%. Students scoring below this will be marked as Ungraded (U) but can reappear for the exam to improve their results.
The new policy aims to standardize grading across all boards in the province. Once fully implemented, a GPA (Grade Point Average) system will also be introduced to further align Pakistan’s education system with global standards.
