Karachi University Still Without Permanent Vice Chancellor After Five Months

University of Karachi Announces Online Morning Classes Until End of Ramadan
Sindh’s largest public-sector university, the University of Karachi, remains without a permanent vice chancellor even after five months, with the institution once again relying on an interim arrangement.
With Acting Vice Chancellor Dr Tufail Ahmed currently abroad, senior dean Professor Dr Haris Shoaib has been assigned the responsibilities of vice chancellor on a temporary basis.
Dr Tufail Ahmed has reportedly travelled abroad for the second time within two months, resulting in another temporary change in the university’s leadership.
The University of Karachi has around 46,000 students and remains without a permanent head as the process for appointing a full-time vice chancellor continues.
A summary containing three names for the post of permanent vice chancellor has already reached the Chief Minister’s House. However, no further progress has been made on the appointment so far.
The repeated reliance on interim arrangements has raised questions over the prolonged delay in appointing a permanent head for one of Sindh’s largest public universities.
For now, Professor Dr Haris Shoaib will oversee the university’s affairs until Dr Tufail Ahmed returns or a further decision is taken regarding the institution’s leadership.
