Gabbie Gonzalez Case: How Cody Clayburn And McKenzie Ferry Became Key Witnesses In The Jack Avery Investigation

20 May, 2026 16:32

The criminal investigation involving influencer Gabbie Gonzalez has expanded beyond social media headlines, with two previously lesser-known individuals now emerging as central witnesses in the alleged murder-for-hire case tied to singer Jack Avery.

Authorities investigating the alleged conspiracy have identified Gabbie’s estranged husband, Cody Clayburn, and her former live-in nanny, McKenzie Ferry, as important figures whose statements reportedly helped shape the years-long investigation.

The case, which centers around allegations that Gabbie Gonzalez and her father plotted to hire a killer against Avery during an intense custody dispute, has drawn widespread online attention due to its disturbing claims and high-profile connections.

Cody Clayburn’s Unexpected Role In The Investigation

Public curiosity around Cody Clayburn increased after reports revealed he was still legally connected to Gabbie Gonzalez during parts of the investigation. Court records cited in media reports describe Cody as Gabbie’s husband, although questions remain over whether the marriage was formally legalised.

The pair reportedly became engaged in 2022 and lived together in Hawaii before separating around 2024. Cody later attracted attention after sharing coverage of Gabbie’s arrest on Instagram with the single-word reaction: “Karma.”

Investigators allege Cody told authorities that Gabbie and her father, Francisco Gonzalez, were heavily focused on securing custody of Lavender, Gabbie’s daughter with Jack Avery. According to reports, Cody claimed Francisco once remarked it would be “cheaper if they were dead,” a statement now being closely examined by investigators.

How McKenzie Ferry Reportedly Alerted Authorities

McKenzie Ferry, who reportedly worked as Gabbie’s nanny and roommate, has also become a critical witness in the case. According to reports, Ferry was among the first people to contact authorities in 2021 after allegedly hearing conversations connected to a possible murder plot.

Her information reportedly triggered federal interest and eventually led to an FBI raid at the Hawaii home shared by Gabbie and Cody in November 2022. During that operation, agents allegedly seized phones, storage devices, and computers as part of the investigation.

Sources suggest the investigation slowed between 2023 and 2025 due to insufficient evidence. However, renewed witness interviews by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reportedly helped revive the case.

Alleged Plot Linked To Custody Battle

Court documents reportedly claim the alleged conspiracy developed during a prolonged custody dispute involving Avery and the couple’s daughter. Prosecutors allege Gabbie asked her former boyfriend, Kai Faron Cordrey, to locate a hitman through the dark web.

Investigators further claim Cordrey later communicated with an undercover officer posing as a contract killer. Authorities allege payments totaling thousands of dollars were discussed as part of the plan.

Currently, Gabbie Gonzalez remains jailed in Los Angeles without bail, while her father awaits extradition from Florida. Jack Avery has also secured a restraining order and temporary custody protections as criminal proceedings continue.
