Taylor Frankie Paul Checks Into Rehab as Tate Paul Files TRO and Sole Custody Petition
Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Taylor Frankie Paul has voluntarily entered a rehabilitation facility, a source confirmed to PEOPLE, in a development that arrives just hours after her ex-husband Tate Paul filed for a temporary restraining order (TRO) and sole custody of their two children. The convergence of legal, personal, and family crises has thrust the reality television personality back into the national spotlight.
Taylor Frankie Paul Enters Rehab on Doctor’s Recommendation
According to a source close to the situation, Taylor made the decision to check into a rehab facility on the advice of her doctor — and did so without any pressure from outside parties. The source confirmed she is committed to “getting better,” while a separate insider added:
Tate Paul’s TRO and Custody Filing
The rehab news broke in close succession to a TMZ report revealing that Tate Paul had filed a petition for a temporary restraining order against Taylor at a Utah courthouse on Tuesday, June 30, 2026. The filing was made in connection with the former couple’s 2022 divorce proceedings, and Tate has submitted five exhibits alongside a declaration in support of his request for sole custody of their children — daughter Indy, 8, and son Ocean, 6. All filings are currently sealed, leaving the specific grounds for the restraining order undisclosed to the public.

Taylor and Tate also share co-parenting responsibilities in the context of Taylor’s 2-year-old son, Ever, who she had with her ex-boyfriend Dakota Mortensen. A source close to Taylor has alleged that the restraining order petition stems directly from Dakota providing Tate with false information about her, stating that she believes Dakota will do anything to cause her harm — including involving the children. Despite the mounting pressure, the source noted that she considers herself a survivor.
A History of Legal and Domestic Trouble
The current crisis is set against a backdrop of ongoing legal complications for Taylor. The Draper Police Department confirmed to PEOPLE on March 16, 2026, that Taylor and Dakota Mortensen are the subjects of an open domestic assault investigation relating to incidents that took place on February 24 and February 25, 2026. TMZ also released footage from a 2023 incident in which Taylor was seen yelling and throwing chairs at Dakota while a child was present nearby.
This is not Taylor’s first brush with the law over domestic matters. She was previously arrested on alleged domestic violence charges in 2023, after which she entered a guilty plea in abeyance to aggravated assault — meaning the charge will be dismissed if she complies with the conditions of the plea agreement. The remaining charges from that incident have already been dismissed.
As the legal battles continue and Taylor remains in treatment, all eyes are on how the custody proceedings and restraining order petition will unfold in the coming weeks.
