Harvey Mason Jr. Addresses BTS’ Grammy Snub and Asian Pop Debate

The CEO of Grammy awards, Harvey Mason Jr., has mentioned on BTS‘ decision to not to submit their music for the 2027 Grammy Awards.

On Wednesday, Harvey throw out a statement, in which he said, he was dissatisfied by the group’s decision but valued their choice.

He penned, “I am saddened to hear that BTS has chosen not to participate in the Grammy Awards process this year, but as a music creator, I understand and respect their decision.”

He also responded to concerns surrounding the newly introduced Asian Pop category. He clarified that the category was formed to celebrate the progression, multiplicity, and accomplishments of pop artists across Asia, not to distinct them from other artists.

As per Harvey point of view, the new category are intended to distinguish more talent without limiting artists’ chances of winning major Grammy awards.

According to Harvey, artists who submit music in genre-specific categories, including Asian Pop, are still eligible to compete for major awards such as Record of the Year, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year.

He further said that acknowledgement in a genre category does not stop artists from being reflected in the All-purpose Field, saying both chances remain open to qualified musicians.

BTS stunned their fan base by declaring that they would not strive for Grammy attention for the 69th awards.

The announcement showed up by all seven members one by one their Instagram accounts, in which Kpop band said they hope their music will be appreciated for its quality rather than being divided by language or region. They also thanked their fans, known as ARMY, for their continued love and support.
