Lahore ; Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) are negotiating seats ahead of general elections scheduled to be held on February 8 next year.

The breakthrough came on Wednesday when PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif visited PML-Q chairman Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain’s residence in Lahore for the first time in almost 15 years. Officials said the meeting lasted about 40 minutes and the two parties discussed the possibility of forming an electoral alliance and decided to set up a separate committee to finalize the issue in this regard. PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif and other leaders including Maryam Nawaz, Rana Sanaullah, Ayaz Sadiq and Azam Nazir Tarar accompanied the party leader.

PML-Q leaders Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain, Chaudhry Salik Hussain and Shafai Hussain also attended the meeting. According to sources, the two parties have agreed to adjust the seats in two parliamentary constituencies and three Punjab assembly constituencies. The party said it would adjust seats in the constituencies of PML-Q leader Tariq Bashir Cheema and Salik. Mr. Shafai’s provincial parliamentary district is also part of the electoral agreement, the people said.

During the meeting, Nawaz also asked about the health condition of Shujaat, a senior politician who served as the country’s prime minister. However, no official statement was issued after the meeting. The meeting comes at a time of heightened political activity, with political parties building campaigns and electoral alliances to strengthen their positions during the election period. Nawaz, a three-time former prime minister, returned home in October this year, ending nearly four years in exile in London to mobilize his supporters ahead of the February 8 election.

Since his return, PML-N leaders have received large sums of compensation from courts in connection with corruption charges brought by the party for political damage.   Previously, the PML-N commander-in-chief had succeeded in attracting the ‘electorate’ of Balochistan to his party membership and had also succeeded in forging an electoral alliance with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement of Pakistan (MQM-P). was.
