Pakistan urges UN to ask Indian govt to release illegal detainees in IOJK – Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

In this regard, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN Munir Akram made a formal request.

In a letter to the Secretary General Antonio Guterres, he asked the United Nations to ask Modi government to immediately release all illegally detained prisoners there.

Furthermore, he conveyed deep concern of Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on the recent demise of a senior political leader Ashraf Sehrai.

The Kashmiri leader Sehrai served as Chairman of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir and died in Indian custody.

Moreover, Ambassador Munir Akram expressed his concerns over the health and safety of thousands of other incarcerated Kashmiri leaders.

He also lamented over condition of other innocent Kashmiris languishing in different jails at undisclosed locations.

Munir Akram recalled that since the outbreak of Covid-19, the Secretary General and the High Commissioner for Human Rights have repeatedly called for a human rights based approach to prevent the virus from rampaging through places of detention.

Meanwhile, death of APHC leader Ashraf Sehrai in Indian custody saddened Pakistan.

The government and the people of Pakistan expressed deep grief over the demise of senior All Parties Hurriyat Conference leader.
