Family Rejects Statements of UK-Based Activist in Azad Kashmir
Family members of individuals accused of promoting unrest in Azad Kashmir have begun publicly distancing themselves from such actions and statements.
Recently, a UK-based individual, Inaam-ul-Haq, released a video message in which he warned that if action was taken against participants of a sit-in in Rawalakot, no court, police station, or home would remain safe.
Reacting to the statement, his brother Ikram-ul-Haq, who lives in Chakswari, Mirpur, announced his complete disassociation from his brother’s views and remarks.
Ikram-ul-Haq said that he does not support the opinions or language used by Inaam-ul-Haq. He added that their mother also does not agree with Inaam-ul-Haq’s position and that the family considers itself separate from his views.
He expressed embarrassment over the video message and said the family was deeply concerned about the direction such individuals were taking.
Ikram-ul-Haq stated that every citizen has the right to raise their voice for their rights, but stressed that rebellion and violence should not be encouraged.
He also appealed to the public to keep young people away from what he described as the disruptive narrative being spread by the banned Joint Action Committee.
Observers say that family members publicly distancing themselves from those promoting unrest reflects a lack of support among ordinary Kashmiris for such narratives and activities.
