Pakistan Iran Agree to Strengthen Road and Rail Links in High-Level Transport Meeting
Pakistan and Iran have taken a significant step toward deepening bilateral economic cooperation by agreeing to strengthen transport connectivity and resolve long-standing cross-border logistical challenges during a high-level ministerial meeting between the two neighboring countries.
The landmark meeting was held between Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan and Iran’s Minister for Roads and Urban Development Farzaneh Sadegh. The Pakistani delegation attending the meeting also included Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi, Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal, and Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar — reflecting the broad and multi-sectoral nature of the bilateral engagement.
Opening the discussions, Federal Minister Abdul Aleem Khan warmly welcomed the restoration of peace in the region and expressed deep admiration for the resilience and determination of the Iranian people during recent challenging times. He emphasized that stronger road and rail connections between the two neighboring countries would help unlock significant trade opportunities and serve as a powerful catalyst for deepening economic cooperation across multiple sectors.
Both sides conducted a comprehensive review of various proposals on the table and reached a critical agreement to fully activate the Pakistan-Iran Joint Transport Committee — a bilateral mechanism designed to systematically address transport and connectivity issues between the two countries and ensure sustained progress on shared infrastructure goals.
Minister Abdul Aleem Khan provided firm assurances to the Iranian delegation that all transport-related bottlenecks between the two countries would be resolved on a priority basis, signaling Pakistan’s strong commitment to removing barriers that have historically hampered cross-border trade and movement of goods.
Iran’s Minister Farzaneh Sadegh expressed heartfelt appreciation for Pakistan’s constructive role in supporting efforts to reduce regional tensions and facilitate peace initiatives. “We highly value the unwavering support and cooperation of our Pakistani brothers,” Minister Sadegh said, underscoring the depth of fraternal ties between the two nations.
The Iranian minister also raised specific and pressing challenges regarding the clearance of trucks and containers at the border crossing — a persistent issue that has caused significant delays and financial losses for traders and transport operators on both sides. Senior officials from both delegations attended the meeting and reached a joint commitment to implement coordinated measures aimed at swiftly resolving all outstanding issues at the Pakistan-Iran border.
The meeting marks a renewed and purposeful push by both governments to transform their shared border into a dynamic corridor of trade, connectivity, and regional economic integration — a goal that carries strategic importance not only for Pakistan and Iran but for the broader vision of regional connectivity linking South Asia, Central Asia and the Middle East.
