29 terrorists killed after Pakistan targets Afghan border hideouts
Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said that Pakistan’s security forces killed 29 militants during an intelligence-based operation and follow-up strikes near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
In a post on X, Tarar said the operation was carried out after several recent terrorist attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, and the Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) camp in Karachi.
He said security forces launched a planned operation in Bajaur district on June 28. The operation targeted militants linked to Indian proxy Jamaat ul Ahrar and Fitna al-Khawarij.
During the operation, militant commander Khan Farosh, also known as Zabal, and three other Jamaat ul Ahrar militants were killed. Several others were injured.
Tarar said that as part of “Operation Ghazab lil-Haq”, security forces also carried out precision strikes during the night of June 28 and 29. The strikes targeted terrorist camps and hideouts in border areas.
According to the minister, three terrorist camps in Paktia, Paktika, and Kunar were destroyed, and 25 militants were killed. A large number of weapons and ammunition stored at the camps were also destroyed.
Tarar said Pakistan is committed to maintaining peace in the region but will not compromise on the safety and security of its people.
He added that the country’s fight against terrorism under the “Azm-e-Istehkam” strategy will continue to eliminate foreign-sponsored terrorism.
Pakistan has seen an increase in terrorist attacks, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, since 2021 after the Afghan Taliban returned to power.
Pakistan launched “Operation Ghazab lil-Haq”, killing many Afghan Taliban operatives and allied militants while injuring hundreds more.
In October 2025, clashes broke out along the border after the Afghan Taliban and allied militants reportedly attacked Pakistani border posts.
Despite several rounds of talks, Pakistan and Afghanistan have not reached an agreement, mainly because the Afghan Taliban government has not taken action against terrorist groups, according to the statement.
