Pakistan’s ports are showing signs of improvement under the Prime Minister’s Task Force on Maritime Reforms, with several measures introduced to modernize port operations and improve efficiency.
According to officials, the efforts of all institutions involved in the task force, including the National Logistics Corporation (NLC), have helped make port operations faster and more effective.
The government has implemented a strategy to modernize ports, improve operational performance, and develop Pakistan into a regional transshipment hub.
The customs clearance system has also been improved through the integration of the Pakistan Single Window with other relevant departments.
Officials said the upgrade of the WeBOC system and the introduction of the Port Community System have significantly reduced cargo clearance times.
A new system has also been introduced that allows goods declarations to be submitted before a ship arrives at the port.
The government is working to improve coordination among national ports, introduce uniform tariffs, and assign specific ports for different types of cargo.
Steps are also being taken to strengthen the railway network, track-and-trace systems, and bonded transport services.
Officials said digitalization, automation, and better space management have helped reduce congestion at ports.
New transshipment regulations and investor-friendly policies have also been introduced to support trade and investment.
According to the government, the task force’s reforms are helping Pakistan move closer to becoming a regional transshipment hub.
