Rawalpindi RPO departs for UK on leave amid rigging controversy

Rawalpindi Regional Police Officer (RPO) Syed Khurram Ali has gone on a leave to the United Kingdom.

According to the spokesperson of RPO Rawalpindi, Syed Khurram Ali has gone abroad on a 15-day leave. RPO Khurram Ali had gone on leave on February 16.

The spokesman said that the RPO’s name was questioned during a press conference yesterday. Syed Khurram Ali has gone to the UK with his family and will return home on March 2, he added.

The spokesperson said that Khurram Ali had applied for the leave before the elections.

Earlier,  newly-appointed Rawalpindi Commissioner Saif Anwar Jappa, who was appointed in place of Liaquat Ali Chattha,  after taking the charge held a press conference along with the DROs of Jhelum, Attock and Chakwal.

Speaking at the conference, Commissioner Saif Anwar Jappa had denied the allegations of rigging levelled by the former commissioner.

The commissioner had no connection in the recent elections except for coordination. An independent inquiry should be conducted into the allegations, told reporters.

On the occasion, the district returning officer of Rawalpindi demanded an inquiry into the allegations of the former commissioner and said that the recent elections were conducted in a very transparent and fair manner. There was no pressure on us, he cleared.

The DC Chakwal said that there was no pressure in the elections, denying the allegations of the former commissioner.
