Shehbaz Sharif elected as 33rd prime minister of Pakistan

Shehbaz Sharif, the joint candidate of the eight-party alliance-led by PML-N for the PM Office, has been elected as 33rd prime minister of Pakistan.

According to polling results announced by Speaker Sadiq, PML-N’s Shehbaz Sharif secured 201 votes while SIC’s Omar Ayub bagged 92 votes. The Speaker, later, made a request to Shehbaz Sharif to take the seat of Leader of the House.

Shehbaz Sharif has assumed the PM Office for the second time.

Akhtar Mengal of Balochistan National Party-Mengal boycotted the election for the prime minister and did not cast his vote.

The SIC lawmaker are shouting slogans of ‘Azaadi’ and Qaidi #804.

Expressing his views after being elected as prime minister in the house, Shehbaz Sharif thanked to the Allah Almighty and PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif. He also thanked to all his allies in the house.

On the occasion, Shehbaz Sharif said that Nawaz Sharif was punished for putting Pakistan on the track to development.

Earlier, the session chaired by National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq started one-hour behind schedule. Voting for the election of prime minister took place through the division method. Bells were rung in the National Assembly for five minutes to gather all the members into the assembly hall. Later, after five minutes, all the doors of the House were locked.

Speaker Ayaz Sadiq had assigned Lobby A to Shehbaz Sharif and Lobby B to Omer Ayub Khan.
