Two army colonels sentenced to death in Chinese workers murder

Democratic Republic of the Congo sentences six people, including two army colonels to death on Friday due to the involvement in the Chinese workers murders.

The other four army personnel were sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Ituri Military Court.

All but one of those receiving the death sentence were members of the military.

As per international media outlets, the two colonels are accused of planning a attack on a convoy in March, for stealing the four gold bars and $6,000 in cash being transported by the victims returning from gold mines.

According to sources, Lieutenant Jules Ngongo, spokesman for military operations in the gold-rich Ituri province, says ‘This must serve as an example for the black sheep in the armed forces.”
