India’s nuclear arsenal reportedly expanding rapidly
India has significantly increased its nuclear capabilities over the past year, according to a report cited by The Telegraph.
The report, based on data from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), claims that India has added around 10 new nuclear warheads in the past year, bringing its total estimated stockpile to about 190 warheads.
According to SIPRI, India is also working to strengthen its sea-based nuclear deterrent. The report suggests that the country is expanding its capability to launch nuclear strikes from the sea.
It further states that India has added two submarines capable of carrying nuclear missiles to its naval fleet, marking a major step in its maritime defence strategy.
The report also notes that India has begun operational deployment of nuclear-capable missiles on naval submarines, increasing its readiness level.
Experts say India is moving toward keeping nuclear warheads in a more ready-to-use state, reflecting a shift in its strategic posture.
In addition to land-based systems, India is focusing on expanding its sea-based nuclear forces as part of its long-term defence planning.
SIPRI data suggests that India’s nuclear stockpile is now close to the level of the United Kingdom, highlighting its growing strategic capabilities.
The report adds that Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal remained stable during the same period, showing no significant change in its overall stockpile.
