Iran Announces Closure of Strait of Hormuz for All Maritime Traffic
Iran Says Strait of Hormuz Closed to All Ships
Iran’s military command, Khatam al-Anbiya headquarters announced that the Strait of Hormuz is shut to all traffic and warned that any ship attempting transit will be blocked.
IRGC Says Vessels Were Targeted
Following the statement ran’s Revolutionary Guard said it struck two vessels that attempted to pass through the strait without approval.
Major Escalation in Conflict
The situation has become much more tense between the US and Iran. The conflict has been growing since US-Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28, with both sides continuing to carry out attacks in recent days.
Fresh US Strikes Reported
Iran’s decision came after US Central Command said it carried out new strikes on Iranian surveillance, communication, and air defense systems. This followed Iran’s reported downing of a US Apache helicopter over the Strait of Hormuz.
