Iran Says Talks With US Suspended Following Alleged Breach of Memorandum

18 July, 2026 19:03

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said negotiations with the United States have been suspended following what he described as Washington’s violation of the Islamabad memorandum of understanding (MoU). Speaking on the issue, Gharibabadi alleged that the United States failed to honor its commitments under the agreement and instead carried out what he called aggressive actions against Iran.

According to the deputy foreign minister, Iran has also halted implementation of all of its commitments under the memorandum in response to the alleged US actions. He said Tehran’s immediate priority is safeguarding the country’s security and national defense, adding that diplomatic engagement with Washington has been put on hold.

Gharibabadi further stated that Iran would respond to what it considers US aggression and reaffirmed that the country reserves the right to take all necessary measures for its self-defense.
