Iranian Envoy Accuses US of Violating Memorandum of Understanding and Escalating Conflict

18 July, 2026 18:45

Iran’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghadam, has accused the United States of violating the terms of a 14-point memorandum of understanding (MoU) that he said was reached after months of Pakistani mediation. In a post on X, the ambassador claimed that Washington’s interpretation of the agreement was contrary to its agreed conditions and that Iran had made it clear it would not accept what he described as a unilateral interpretation of the MoU.

The ambassador further alleged that the United States had taken control of parts of the Strait of Hormuz in an effort to achieve objectives it had failed to secure through military means. He claimed that the subsequent outbreak of hostilities violated both the terms of the memorandum and established principles of international law.

Reza Amiri Moghadam also alleged that the United States was carrying out attacks on Iran’s critical infrastructure as the conflict intensified.
