Kashmir Martyrs Day observed to pay homage to martyrs of 13 July 1931.

In occupied Kashmir, complete shutdown observed today (Monday) to mark the Day.

On both sides of the Line of Control and world over, Kashmiris observed Kashmir Martyrs Day .

Veteran Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Gilani and All Parties Hurriyat Conference and Mirwaiz-led Hurriyat forum called for strike.

They also reiterated the urgent need for a peaceful and just resolution of the Kashmir dispute.

Moreover, they demanded to put an end to repression against the Kashmiri people and Hurriyat leaders.

Syed Ali Gilani in a tweet said that the people of occupied Kashmir will continue their battle against Indian oppression till the dawn of freedom.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq-led Hurriyat forum has said that 13th July 1931 is a milestone in the history of Jammu and Kashmir as on the day Kashmiris for the first time collectively stood up to resist oppressive autocratic rule.

On 13th July 1931, the troops of Dogra Maharaja had killed 22 Kashmiris, one after the other, outside the Central Jail in Srinagar during the court proceedings against one Abdul Qadeer who had asked the Kashmiri people to defy the Dogra Rule.

The APHC has appealed to the people to conduct a march towards the Mazar-e-Shuhada, Naqshband Sahib in Srinagar on the day where the martyrs of 1931 are buried.

Protest rallies

Meanwhile, Kashmir Liberation Cell, Hurriyet organizations, political, social and religious organizations have arranged rallies, functions and seminars .

These events held in all big and small cities of Azad Kashmir to pay glowing tributes to martyrs of 13th July, 1931.

In the AJK state capital Muzaffarabad, the main function of the day held at Prime Minister Secretariat where AJK Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider Khan was chief guest.

A smartly contingent of Police presented salute to the Shuhada as a mark of respect.

Addressing the ceremony, Raja Farooq Haider Khan paid rich tributes to 22 Kashmiris who embraced Shahadat on 13 July, 1931 and vowed to carry on their mission.
