IHC declares former PM Nawaz Sharif a proclaimed offender

The court heard the former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s appeals against his sentence in the Al Azizia and Avenfield reference.

Earlier, Foreign Ministry’s Director Europe Mubashir Khan told the court that he had received the court’s advertisements regarding Nawaz Sharif. He said he sent it to the Pakistani High Commission in London.

Meanwhile, FIA’s Aijaz Ahmed, in his statement to the court, said that he had led a team of FIA Punjab.

Furthermore he said that he delivered the advertisements at Nawaz Sharif’ residence in Jati Umra and Model Town in Lahore.

He stated he had visited Model Town residence first where he met the security team.

The FIA official said that he informed the security team of the advertisements and also shouted Nawaz Sharif’s name loudly.

He also did the same at the Jati Umra residence. He said that the FIA team has also submitted the pictures of its actions in the record.

Justice Farooq said that the court will issue orders on the basis of the evidence.

NAB’s Additional Prosecutor General

He asked NAB’s Additional Prosecutor General Jahanzaib Bharwana regarding the former prime minister.

The NAB lawyer asked the court to dismiss the appeals filed by the former prime minister on “merit”.

He said that Nawaz Sharif can also be sentenced for not surrendering to the court.

However, the judge asked the NAB prosecutor to present judicial precedents at next hearing on what should be done about the appeal of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif. He also remarked that Maryam Nawaz and Capt Safdar’s hearing are also scheduled for the coming days.

NAB’s lawyer contended that the merit was completely different on the appeals filed by Safdar and Maryam.
