In this regard, the public and private sectors of the country have offered 189 sites for building low cost housing units.

It aims to provide affordable accommodation to lower middle class under Naya Pakistan Housing Programme.

While quoting an official in the Ministry of Housing and Works, APP reported this development.

The official said that private sector have offered 57 out of 189 sites to build around 104,912 houses.

Besides, the government sector have offered 132 sites.

He further said the government intends to build a total of five million housing units.

Government eyes catering for the needs of shelter less and low-income people.

The official said the government has so far received over two million applications.

Furthermore, he said out of them 1.8 million are eligible.

He said that the government is launching various schemes to initially accommodate these applicants.

Meanwhile, Naya Pakistan Housing and Development Authority is finalizing the housing schemes in Islamabad and Lahore.

According to the official, more than six thousand seven hundred houses have been completed so far under various schemes.

However, general public remains suspicious of the official claims in this regard.
