Sarfaraz Ahmed Goes Unpicked in PSL 10 Player Draft: End of an Era?

13 January, 2025 22:09

Quetta Gladiators Release Sarfaraz Ahmed

Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed, who had been an integral part of the Quetta Gladiators since the inception of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), was released by the franchise earlier this month. The wicketkeeper-batter had been the face of the team and led them to their first-ever PSL title in 2019. Despite his long-standing association with the Gladiators, the franchise decided to part ways with the 37-year-old ahead of the PSL 10 player draft. Speculations were rife that the Gladiators might re-sign him during the draft, but Sarfaraz officially announced his departure from the franchise a day before the event.

Karachi Kings Expected to Pick Sarfaraz but Didn’t

Following his release from Quetta Gladiators, fans turned their attention to Karachi Kings, Sarfaraz’s hometown team, expecting them to draft the veteran cricketer. Given his experience and popularity in Karachi, many believed the Kings would take the opportunity to bring him on board. However, sources close to the team confirmed that Sarfaraz was not in their plans, much to the disappointment of fans. Eventually, the 37-year-old went unpicked as none of the six PSL franchises showed interest in drafting the former Gladiator, sparking debates about his future in the league.
