Virat Kohli injured ahead of Champions Trophy final

08 March, 2025 08:30

India’s batting maestro Virat Kohli is facing injury concern ahead of the highly-anticipated ICC Champions Trophy final against New Zealand scheduled for March 09 in Dubai.

According to reports, the prolific batter struck near his knee during the practice session at the ICC academy in Dubai.

After the injury, he stopped training immediately with physio staff quickly aided him, by applying a spray and wrapping the area with a bandage.

He was reportedly facing a pacer in net.

Despite experiencing mild pain, the former India captain at the training facility and observed the rest of the training session, reassuring teammates and staff regarding his condition.

According to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the nature of injury is not serious and he will be fit to play the final at the Dubai Stadium on Sunday, March 09.

The final could be the last hurrah for India greats Kohli and captain Rohit Sharma.

The 36-year-old Kohli and skipper Rohit, 37, came into the 50-over tournament with speculation swirling over when they will retire following lean patches in Test cricket.

Mainstays of a formidable India side for more than 15 years, the duo retired from T20 internationals after winning the World Cup last year.

This weekend could be the end for them in ODIs, with the next 50-over World Cup not until 2027.
