Dashcam Footage Shows Police Officer Lose Temper at Speeding P-Plater in Queensland

21 May, 2025 15:07

Shocking dashcam footage has surfaced showing a Queensland police officer losing his temper after a young driver failed to stop in a school zone. The incident occurred on Tuesday on Nicklin Way at Bokarina, located on the Sunshine Coast.

The officer was conducting routine traffic checks when a black BMW 528i, driven by an 18-year-old P-plater from Warana, ignored his commands to pull over. Instead, the vehicle accelerated toward the officer and swerved at the last second, continuing down the road without stopping.

In a moment of frustration, the police officer threw his speed radar gun at the passing vehicle. The device shattered on impact.

According to Queensland Police, the driver has now been fined for multiple offences. A spokesperson confirmed the teenager received three traffic infringement notices, including:

  • Speeding more than 20km/h over the limit in a school zone

  • Careless driving

  • Failing to stop when directed without a valid excuse

The officer involved has also faced internal disciplinary action and was formally reprimanded for his outburst.

Support and Reactions

Despite the reprimand, Acting Police Commissioner Shane Chelepy defended the officer’s service.
“Yes, we expect professionalism, but frustration is real,” Chelepy said.
“He’s out there every day trying to keep Queenslanders safe. This year, we’ve already seen over 100 road deaths.”

While acknowledging the officer’s reaction wasn’t ideal, Chelepy expressed appreciation for his daily efforts:
“We’ll speak with him, but I commend the work he does on the street.”

The police officer has since been reprimanded after throwing the speed radar at the car

Viral Social Media Response

The footage quickly went viral on social media, with mixed reactions. Some viewers joked about the officer’s “great arm,” while others expressed understanding, noting the tough conditions police officers often face on the roads.

Rising Road Fatalities in Queensland

Last year, Queensland recorded 301 road deaths, the highest since 2009. The toll continues to rise in 2025, with over 100 fatalities already, especially in the state’s urban southeast.
