Karachi Schools to Remain Closed on Wednesday, Sindh Government Confirms
Karachi schools closed tomorrow amid heavy rains and flood threat
The Sindh government announced on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, that all schools in Karachi will stay closed on Wednesday. The decision was taken after heavy rainfall in the city caused waterlogging in many areas. Officials from the Sindh Education Department confirmed that both public and private schools will remain shut.
Parents were advised to keep children at home for safety reasons. The authorities also said the step was taken to avoid traffic problems and to give municipal teams time to clear the rainwater.
This closure applies to all schools in Karachi, while colleges and universities are yet to confirm their schedule. The education department said a further update will be issued if the weather situation continues.
Several areas of Karachi witnessed urban flooding after hours of heavy rain on Tuesday. Roads in Saddar, Gulshan, North Karachi, and Korangi were blocked, causing long traffic jams. The Met Office has warned that more rain may hit the city in the next 24 hours.
School owners and parents welcomed the decision, saying it was necessary for the safety of students. Social media also saw many students sharing posts, expressing relief over the unexpected holiday.
