UN Declares Gaza as Famine Zone, Warns of Humanitarian Catastrophe

23 August, 2025 00:29

New York – The United Nations (UN) has officially declared Gaza famine-stricken, warning that the humanitarian crisis in the besieged territory has reached alarming levels.

According to the latest UN report, more than 500,000 people in Gaza are facing severe hunger and life-threatening conditions. The majority of the population is struggling with limited access to food, clean water, and medical aid.

The report highlights that children and elderly people are the most vulnerable. Malnutrition rates have sharply increased, while hospitals are overwhelmed and unable to provide adequate treatment due to shortages of medicine and essential supplies.

UN officials said the situation is the result of prolonged conflict, destroyed infrastructure, and restricted humanitarian access. Farmland has been damaged, supply routes remain blocked, and food imports are far below the required levels to sustain the population.

“The scale of hunger and suffering in Gaza is catastrophic. Without urgent international action, lives will continue to be lost at an alarming pace,” the report warned.

Global humanitarian organizations have echoed the UN’s concerns, calling for immediate steps to provide food, medicine, and relief supplies. The UN has appealed to the international community to mobilize emergency aid and push for safe humanitarian corridors to reach those in desperate need.
