CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz Faces Backlash Over Portable Washrooms Claim in Flood Relief

Lahore, September 4, 2025 – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is facing heavy trolling on social media after she claimed her government had installed portable washrooms in flood-hit areas of Chiniot.

On Wednesday, Maryam shared a picture on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption: “Innovated portable washrooms constructed and placed at relief camps in Chiniot.”

Netizens Call Out “Old Picture”

Soon after her post went viral, netizens pointed out that the picture was not new. They alleged that the same portable washroom had been listed for sale on OLX back in 2023, with a price tag of PKR 1.75 lakh.

Social media users accused Maryam of misleading people during the Punjab floods 2025, calling it a “scam”. Screenshots of the old OLX listing were widely circulated to counter the CM’s claim.

Online Reactions

One user wrote: “Maryam Nawaz posted a picture from OLX taken in 2023, claiming she installed that portable washroom in Chiniot in 2025 floods. This is just one example of her flood relief hogwash.”

Another user commented: “This is getting out of hand. She is mocking the people she rules. Unforgivable.”

Journalist Ihtisham Ul Haq also reacted, saying: “Maryam should seriously consider sacking her PR & media team.”

Several users went further, calling her “2 numberi” (fraud) and accusing the government of making false claims while people suffer in flood-hit regions.

Flood Relief Criticism

The trolling has sparked a wider debate about accountability in flood relief efforts. Many believe the government should focus on providing actual aid—such as food, shelter, and medicines—instead of posting questionable pictures online.

The Punjab CM has not yet issued a clarification about the allegations.
